Nicole went to the Cause for Paws of North Carolina animal shelter to look for foster animals. She recalled that the rescue coordinator immediately approached her and showed her two Furless German Shepherd Pups born without fur on Zander and Xavier’s bodies.
Her first impression was that Zander and Xavier had non-contagious mange. Nicole thought she could quickly fix the consition, but that was not the case.

She admitted that she was in complete disbelief because no puppies are born without fur on their bodies. However, Nicole eventually learned that Zander and Xavier had alopecia, not mange.
Alopecia is an infection of the hair follicles in the skin, causing the fur not to grow. Nicole recalled how scared the two dogs were when she first got them.
Nicole fostered Zander and Xavier for one whole month. She knew that the puppies were ready to be adopted as soon as she saw that the dogs could finally accept new people, environments, and uncontrollable situations that they were in as time passed.
Thinking that Zander and Xavier would thrive living in separate homes will grow their personality and confidence. Finally, Nicole posted a video of the two Furless German Shepherd Pups and made them available for adoption.
They received over 50 adoption applications for both Zander and Xavier. Nicole shared that Tyler’s request to adopt Xavier caught her eye because Tyler also had alopecia, so she accepted him as Xavier’s new dad.
A woman named Aida applied to be Zander’s new mom. Nicole accepted Aida’s application because she believes that Zander would enjoy having Aida as his mom since Aida and her husband are active people who want outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping with their other German Shepherd dogs.
