Irresponsible backyard breeding has caused dogs much pain and suffering. Most of the time, they are kept in filthy and cramped spaces for profit. There are times when breeders try to generate more money by breeding dogs that produce unhealthy offspring. This is what happened to Hopelily. Malnourished Bulldog Loves His New Sister
Mini bulldogs command a high price. Hopelily’s breeder wanted to produce this breed, so he selected the smallest bulldogs in his care to mate. The resulting litter was so small that some of them died. Hopelily survived the birthing process, but it seemed that she would not last long. Knowing that the tiny pup was sick, the breeder tried to sell her, claiming she was already 12 weeks old.
But at that time, the sickly pup was barely over a month old.
Help needed
Nikki Carvey, the founder of Road Dogs And Rescue, a charity rescue organization based in California, learned about the poor pup. And when she saw pictures and videos of Hopelessly, she knew she had to help her.
Nikki has grown up with bulldogs and knows how complicated the breed is. They suffer from many medical conditions, even at a young age. When she realized that Hopelily was highly malnourished, rescuing her became a priority.
The skinny pup was brought directly to a vet. They put her under constant care and treatment until she was healthy enough to be taken to Nikki’s home. In the clinic, she steadily gained weight and grew more prominent. After a few weeks, the kind rescuer took her home to meet the rest of the family.
Big sister
Welly is a disabled bulldog that Nikki rescued as well. When Hopelily met her, they had an instant connection. Nikki had several dogs in the house, but the two bonded. They stayed together most of the time, and even though Welly couldn’t move her hind legs, the energetic pup would run around her.
And when Welly puts her wheelchair on, the tiny pup hops on her back and takes a ride.
Fortunately, Hopelily was found before her life could end tragically. As a result, she now has a pleasing and long future ahead of her.
