Beagles have a friendly nature and gentle temperament. As a result, they make the perfect companion dogs, especially children. Sadly, it’s also because of these qualities that laboratories experiment on them.
It happened to a beagle named Frannie. For four years, Frannie was in a testing lab. Then, when the lab finished their experiments on her, they wanted to put her down. Fortunately, someone rescued Frannie, and a family adopted her.
Frannie showed signs of her horrible time at the lab. She was just a number inside the lab; they tattooed that on her ear. Her shaved paw had permanent needle marks. It was apparent that they pricked her paw repeatedly with needles.
Frannie probably had babies because there were scar marks on her belly. Her family could only imagine what other forms of torture she went through in the lab.
First time on the grass
When the family took Frannie home, it was her first time touching the grass. She had never been outside, so she was unsure what to do. Seeing her very fearful and meek was heartbreaking because of her experience at the lab.
Beagles could be expressive and had different forms of vocalization. However, Frannie has not barked or made any noises for a year since she was adopted. The family thought that people at the lab had cut her vocal cords.
She finds her voice.
Days passed, and she felt safe and comfortable with the family’s patience and love. She became more lively and friendly. She even found her voice but only liked to use it when chasing the cat.
A year later, another Beagle from the same lab named Gertie joined the family. Frannie and Gertie had different personalities. Frannie was reserved when she first arrived, but Gertie was more friendly with the kids. Gertie loved to play with them.
When the family adopted a blind boy from China, he immediately took to Gertie. He loved feeling her and even slept in the dog bed with her.
Frannie and Gertie were lucky to have found such a loving family.
