Sisko the Unexpected Package
The gift was… imposing. It dwarfed Kyson Hunter, a man already notably thin, making him look like a particularly lanky scarecrow next to a small mountain of… something. Wrapped in what appeared to be a repurposed parachute, secured with what looked suspiciously like garden twine, the package bulged and groaned under its own weight. It was accompanied by Mrs. St. James, a woman whose enthusiasm far outweighed her coordination. She practically vibrated with nervous energy, her floral print dress threatening to unravel at the seams with every jerky movement.

“For… for Sisko!” she chirped, her voice a little too high-pitched for comfort. “A… a token of my appreciation! For… uh… finding my prize-winning pumpkin last year!”
This is… quite the gift
Kyson exchanged a look with Sisko, a sleek black Lab-Shepherd mix, who regarded the enormous package with intelligent, yet slightly unimpressed, eyes. Last year, Mrs. St. James’ pumpkin had rolled a good half-mile down the hill after she’d lost control of it while attempting a rather ambitious “pumpkin-toss” celebration. Sisko had tracked it down, nose to the ground, in record time.
“Mrs. St. James,” Kyson began cautiously, “this is… quite the gift. Are you sure you wouldn’t prefer to…” he gestured vaguely towards a nearby dumpster, “…reconsider the delivery method?”
Mrs. St James blinked. “Oh, nonsense! It’s a… a surprise! A… giant… thing!” She tripped over her own feet, narrowly avoiding a collision with the already precarious stack. Kyson winced. He’d seen more controlled demolition jobs.
Sisko, meanwhile, had started sniffing the package with intense focus. Her tail thumped a hesitant rhythm against the pavement. The scent must have been overpowering. Even Kyson could detect a faint aroma of something vaguely citrusy mixed with… was that potting soil? And something else… something distinctly… *cheesy*?
“Well,” Kyson said, deciding to go with it, “I’m sure Sisko will appreciate it. Perhaps we should open it cautiously.” He eyed the twine with suspicion. “Any idea what’s inside?”
“Oh, yes!” Mrs. St James chirped, beaming. “It’s a… uh… a colossal… uh… *sculpture*! A life-sized… uh… squirrel! Made of… cheese!”
Kyson stared at her, utterly speechless. Sisko, sensing the potential for a truly epic treat, let out a low, happy whine.
Cheese-based avalanche?
The unraveling of the parachute proved to be a surprisingly lengthy and dramatic affair. Bits of twine flew, Mrs. St. James offered increasingly unhelpful advice (mostly about the merits of different types of cheese), and Kyson secretly prayed that it wouldn’t involve a cheese-based avalanche.
Finally, the last of the twine was cut. And there it was: A gigantic, rather lopsided squirrel, crafted entirely out of various cheeses, ranging from a pale, almost ethereal cheddar to a rich, intensely orange variety. It was a masterpiece of culinary… well, something.

Sisko, however, was already happily gnawing on a particularly delicious-looking chunk of Gruyère.
“Well,” Kyson sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. “That’s… certainly something.” He looked at the enormous cheesy rodent, then back at the happily munching Sisko. “At least she’ll have a good time with it.”
Mrs. St James, who had finally stopped tripping over herself, let out a delighted giggle. “Isn’t it wonderful?”
